For the first time in the organization’s history, the Humane Society for Southwest Washington (HSSW) no longer has to transport injured and distressed animals to local veterinary partners for examinations that rely on radiology equipment.
Last month, the nonprofit finished installing new whole body and dental radiology equipment that was purchased, in part, with a $30,000 grant from the Banfield Foundation.
The grant was part of the foundation’s “12 Days of Giving” campaign, where shelters and nonprofit organizations across the country received funds to provide veterinary care to pets in need. The foundation was established late last year as a separate nonprofit entity from Banfield Pet Hospital.
“At Banfield Pet Hospital and the Banfield Foundation, we believe in the importance of veterinary care for all pets – not just those who are owned,” said Kim Koenig, program manager for corporate social responsibility at Banfield Pet Hospital. “Via our volunteer work, we have seen first-hand the care and work that goes in to caring for the pets at the Humane Society for Southwest Washington, and are proud to help them serve hundreds and thousands of pets in the years to come.”
25 donors contributed an additional $100,000 to the Humane Society to complete the purchase of the new equipment, which was installed last month.
“We are so grateful to our new neighbors and long-time strategic partners, the Banfield Foundation and Banfield Pet Hospital,” said Stacey Graham, HSSW executive director. “Their inspiration, along with the additional investments from our friends and supporters, are truly game changers for our community.”
