Current job: Owner + lead designer and strategist, Markon Brand Design
Proudest professional moment: Buying Markon Signs and Decals at the age of 28. It was an aging, outdated business that needed a lot of energy and hard work. I’m lucky to have a great network of supporters, though I’m sure there was some doubt about the idea that I could transform it into the business and agency it is today.
First job: The first real paying job I had was at the old Boston Market that used to be in Orchards. I still haven’t got over my aversion to gravy because of it, and find most Thanksgiving food generally unappealing to this day.
Fun fact: I love to cook and started an Iron Chef competition club for some of my foodie friends in Vancouver. We get together quarterly and all make dishes along a certain theme or with one special, required ingredient. Everyone votes secretly on their favorite dish and the winner gets to pick the theme or ingredient for the next competition. Everyone always amazes me with their creations. It’s a fun way to share our love of cooking and everyone enjoys the friendly competition!
Favorite spot on a Saturday night: At home with my husband and cats, watching a crime mystery on TV. I’m out and about all week, so weekends are for being home, resting and recharging.
Favorite movie: I am not ashamed to say “Pitch Perfect.” It’s the only movie I actually own. I have it on my iPad so that if I’m ever stuck in an airport or somewhere without Wi-Fi it can come to my rescue. There are lots of other great movies, but I can watch this one over and over.
Music of choice: We have Spotify playing at MBD at all times! When we’re all in the zone creating, the music needs to have a good beat – but not be too intense, so the playlist skews pretty indie/electronic. Car music is a mix of pop, hip-hop and ‘90s on Sirius.
Favorite place to eat: Main Event East Side. Best happy hour in Vancouver – burger and a glass of red wine!
