The M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust in Vancouver recently announced the hiring of two new program directors: Romanita Hairston and Pauline Fong. Both employees will join the Trust in September.

Hairston previously served as vice president of World Vision U.S. and has spent more than two decades working with individuals and families living in under-resourced communities.

“Romanita is a person of great integrity who possesses strong relational and leadership skills,” said Steve Moore, executive director at the Murdock Trust.

Hairston has stayed invested in the community by serving on local boards, as a youth and young adult mentor and as an active member of her church.

“It is important to demonstrate service beyond one’s paid vocation when you are asking others to do the same,” she said. “We should always be willing to fulfill the call we make to others to contribute to the common good.”

Hairston holds two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Washington, as well as an MBA emphasizing leadership in non-governmental organizations from Eastern University in Philadelphia.

Fong previously served for 23 years on staff with InterVarsity, the last four years as regional director for the Northwestern states of Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

“Pauline is a skilled leader, adept at working cross culturally and in ways that empower individuals and organizations,” said Alec Hill, president emeritus of InterVarsity.

Fong is a graduate of University of Berkeley, California, and holds a master of arts degree from Fuller Theological Seminary. She is a frequent speaker, trainer and resource person regionally and nationally in equipping young and emerging leaders in being positive change agents, locally and globally.

“We feel incredibly fortunate to have such a gifted individual as Pauline joining our team,” said Moore. “We believe she will advance our mission, strengthen our team and serve our constituencies well as we work to nurture and strengthen the organizations and assets that are vital for thriving communities in our region and beyond.”
