Breaking Ground

N.E. 88th Street Square

Vancouver-based RSV Construction Services Inc. broke ground on N.E. 88th St. Square Jan. 2. The 18,400-square-foot, single-story retail building is at 1218 N.E. 88th St. in Vancouver.

Green Bay, Wis.-based Batteries Plus has purchased 6,000 square feet of the building, which will also be home to a branch of Riverview Community Bank. The project executive is Ron Frederiksen of RSV in Vancouver, working with Architects Associative and Olson Engineering, both of Vancouver.

Columbia Credit Union at Grand Central

Columbia Credit Union broke ground on its new branch at the Grand Central retail development Feb. 22. Grand Central is located off of Highway 14, east of downtown Vancouver.

The “greenbreaking” event celebrated the 3,838-square-foot project the credit union claims is Vancouver’s first LEED-certified financial institution. At least, the one-story building is planned to meet requirements for a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design ‘silver’ rating from the U.S. Green Building Council.

The facility’s green features will include a rainwater irrigation system, reclaimed wood floors, self-dimming lights, native plant landscaping and a water-permeable parking lot to hydrate underlying soil.

The credit union collaborated with Seattle firms EHS Design and Paladino and Co. Inc. on the building design. Vancouver-based Team Construction is scheduled to complete the facility in the spring of 2008.

Work is wrapping up on CCU’s first LEED-certified branch at The Crossing in Washougal, which is expected to open in April.
