Event launches ReStore effort

Evergreen Habitat for Humanity will host a community involvement kick-off for its new ReStore branch in Clark County. ReStore is a chain of Habitat for Humanity retail outlets that collects building materials and household goods for discounted public resale. The four current Northwest ReStore locations raise about $100,000 for Habitat for Humanity annually while reusing about 950 tons of materials.

Speakers will include Vancouver Mayor Royce Pollard and Clark County Commissioner Steve Stuart. The event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on April 8 in First United Methodist Church’s Jason Lee Hall, 401 E. 33rd St. in Vancouver.

Shearer wins $9.5M contract

Shearer and Assoc., a Vancouver-based development and construction firm, won a $9.5 million contract to construct a lumber yard and building supply center in Kelseyville, Calif.

Construction on the 83,000-square-foot project began March 10. The facility was designed by Portland-based architectural firm The Myhre Group. It will include a retail building supply warehouse, equipment rental shop, restaurant, window store, garden shop and specialty design center.

Shearer and Assoc. was the construction manager for the North Pacific Union Conference building in Ridgefield and is currently building loft-style condominiums near Walla Walla, Wash.

SWCA provides health insurance option

The Southwest Washington Contractors Association is offering a new health care plan through Portland-based SC Insurance.

SWCA is a plan center for general and commercial subcontractors and commercial suppliers. The health insurance plan is open to new and existing members. Member businesses qualify for the plan if they are headquartered in Washington and have 51 percent of their employees working in the state.

BIA offers group 401(k)

The Building Industry Association of Clark County is offering a new 401(k) plan for its member businesses.

Columbia Energy Partners takes on solar project

Vancouver-based Columbia Energy Partners is planning to construct what may be Oregon’s largest solar power project in the fall of 2008.

The estimated $20 million project will be constructed on private property west of Arlington, Ore., and will generate two megawatts of electricity from solar panels connected to a local PacifiCorp transmission grid rather than a more distant grid, keeping the solar power in the Arlington market.

Germany-based HSH Nordbank AG is arranging financing for the construction.

Nutter wins $7.3M port contract

Vancouver-based Nutter Corp. won a $7.35 million public works contract with the Port of Vancouver for the construction of the second of three phases structured to complete the scope of the West Vancouver Freight Access Rail Project’s Schedule 1. Four bids were submitted, but Nutter was determined to be the most responsive and responsible bidder, according to the port.

Construction for the second phase is estimated at $8.44 million.
