Breaking Ground

Klineline Bridge replacement

Demolition of the Klineline Bridge on Highway 99 over Salmon Creek began in April. Longview-based Ostrander Rock and Construction won the $9.2 million bid to reconstruct the bridge.

Completion of the new bridge is set for fall of 2008 and will include a four-lane roadway, bike lanes, sidewalks, left-turn lanes for intersections at each end, pedestrian overlooks and special lighting. The county closed the existing bridge Dec. 2, 2007, after inspections showed it was unsafe for public use.

Battle Ground Community Library

A groundbreaking ceremony for Battle Ground Community Library took place April 19. The new 14,356-square-foot facility will be at Battle Ground Village, a mixed-use retail center at 1207 S.E. Rasmussen Blvd. in Battle Ground. Replacing the city’s current 49-year-old library, the new facility is expected to draw nearly 1,200 daily visitors.

The project co-developers are the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District and the Gold Medal Group, both based in Vancouver. Gold Medal Group is handling construction with total cost projections of $3.8 million. Dennis Pavlina of the Gold Metal Group is the project executive and Rita Levesque of the library district is project manager.

Hopper Dennis Jellison office expansion

Vancouver-based Team Construction is working on an office expansion for Hopper Dennis Jellison’s engineering firm at 314 W. Fifth St. in Vancouver. The firm is replacing the oldest of its two buildings with a three-story, 16,400-square-foot facility. The new structure will connect to the company’s current 7,400-square-foot building and include one story of parking and two stories of office space. Construction began in August 2007 and is scheduled for completion in June. The project has a $3.8 million construction budget with a projected completed value of $4 million. Tom Dennis, principal at HDJ, is the project executive.
