Vancouver Endodontist Richard Mounce is in the midst of a speaking tour of Southeast Asia, Mexico, Spain and the United States, teaching general dentists to do root canal therapy. He will return from his travels Nov. 4.
Mounce speaks globally about his trade regularly. In September, he addressed the European Endodontic meeting in Istanbul then spoke at the Montana Dental Assoc.’s continuing education meeting.
Endodontics is a subset of dentistry that deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries that affect the tooth, pulp, root and tissue surrounding the root.
Along with working with several companies as a clinical advisor, Mounce writes for global dentistry magazines and journals and is passionate about donated dentistry.
He is licensed to practice in the Republic of Palau, and visits as often as possible to volunteer, deliver donated supplies and scuba dive.
Mounce moved his practice from Portland to Mill Plain Road in Vancouver in November, and has received quite the warm welcome, he said.
“This is a more close-knit dental community,” he said. “Participation in organized dentistry is very high in Vancouver relative to Portland, and Vancouver is blessed with many world-class clinicians of all types.”
The quality of care in Vancouver rivals or surpasses that of Portland, Mounce added.
He and his wife Laura moved five minutes from his office in Vancouver in May, and they are finding the business climate to be more vibrant than that of Portland and with a better, though smaller, transportation infrastructure.
“Vancouver is our home now,” he said.
