Battle Ground attorney receives 2009 George C. Marshall award

Phillip Haberthur, an attorney with Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt in Vancouver, has been named the 2009 recipient of the Gen. George C. Marshall Public Leadership Award.

Haberthur will be recognized during a ceremony at Marshall's former Vancouver home at 1301 Officers Row on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 4 p.m.

This year marks the 21st anniversary of this award honoring the legacy of the legendary general and former U.S. Secretary of State. Haberthur was chosen by the Marshall selection committee, consisting of community members and chaired by Dr. Leslie Burger, a retired Army general.

BARBARA KERR

Barbara Kerr, executive director of communication and marketing at Clark College, successfully completed the Examination for Accreditation in Public Relations.

Overseen by the Universal Accreditation Board, a consortium of nine professional communication organizations directing, the program aims to improve the practice of public relations by assessing competence in 60 areas of knowledge, skills and abilities.

A former news director, producer, anchor and reporter at network television affiliates in Ohio and Maryland, Kerr joined Clark College in 2004. 

"At Clark College, we believe in excellence and we believe in lifelong learning. Barbara's accomplishment represents both," said Clark College President Robert Knight.

J.D. DESAI

Vancouver Comfort Inn & Suites owner J.D. Desai received the Best Renovation/Re-Design APEX award from parent company Choice Hotels International, Inc. earlier this month.

The award serves to recognize properties and individuals demonstrating a strong commitment to excellence. Desai's hotel is one of eight Choice brand hotels in the state to receive a 2009 APEX award.

ERICA DAHMEN

The Quarry at Columbia Tech Center appointed Erica Dahmen as community relations director. Dahmen is a graduate of Washington State University with a degree in Human Resources and Personnel Psychology and a certificate in Professional Sales.

Previously, Dahmen was director of community relations with Avamere Health Services in the Portland area. She is currently a member of the East Vancouver Business Association, Metropolitan Senior Network and the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce.
