Jordan Ramis PC announces the arrival of shareholder James D. Howsley

Jordan Ramis PC recently announced the addition of land use attorney James D. Howsley to the firm’s Dirt Law practice group.

Howsley has extensive experience in land use approval and permitting, annexations, code amendments, development agreements, legislation, ballots and lobbying. His primary areas of practice include land use and real estate development, environmental and natural resources, and government and regulatory affairs.  

“We are thrilled to welcome Jamie to Jordan Ramis,” said Tim Ramis, chair of the firm’s land use law practice group. “The experience he brings to our land use and real estate teams, along with his track record of success, will provide a great service to our clients and to the Northwest.”

In addition to his law practice, Howsley has an active role in the Vancouver Rotary Club and serves as a board member for Columbia River Mental Health Services. He is a member of the American Planning Association, Southwest Washington Contractors Association, American Bar Association, Oregon and Washington State Bar Associations, and the Clark County Bar Association. He is also the Government Affairs Director for the Building Industry Association of Clark County.

KATHY CALCAGNO

Kathy Calcagno has joined First Independent Bank as a private banking relationship manager. 

Calcagno has more than 25 years of experience working with high-net-worth individuals and families, most recently as executive development director for the Brian Grant Foundation. She also worked as a wealth consultant and business development officer for Wells Fargo and as a senior trust officer and business development officer for Bank of America in Portland.

“Kathy joins us with an extensive financial services background and experience in working with high net worth individuals,” said Jennifer M. Rhoads, First Independent senior VP and director of wealth management. “She is a trusted advisor in the Portland marketplace. We are excited to have her as part of our team.”

JASON REID

The Northwest Association for Blind Athletes (NWABA) recently appointed Jason Reid to its Board of Directors. Reid is a sales manager and partner
with Southwest Office Systems in Vancouver.

“We are delighted to have Jason join our Board of Directors. Along with the rest of the board and staff, he will help to guide our organization into the future,”
said NWABA Executive Director Billy Henry.

NWABA is a Vancouver-based nonprofit that provides opportunities for blind and visually-impaired persons to become engaged in physical activity and sports through scholarships and confidence-building events.

EMILY SHELDRICK

Employment and business litigation attorney Emily Sheldrick has been named board member and vice president of Washington Women Lawyers (WWL) – a statewide organization that offers programming and support for women lawyers.

Prior to establishing her own practice – Vancouver-based Dunn & Sheldrick PS – Sheldrick worked at Sebris Busto James P.S., an employment law firm located in Bellevue. She also represented clients including Microsoft, Intel and Alaska Airlines with Williams, Kastner & Gibbs PLLC, one of Seattle’s largest law firms.

Sheldrick graduated with honors from University of Washington School of Law in 1996 and received her Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude from Oregon State University.

JULIE HILL

Julie Hill has joined iQ Credit Union as marketing manager.

In her new position, Hill will be responsible for managing all day-to-day marketing activity including retail merchandising, and design and production of advertising campaigns and communication tools, the credit union said.

Previously, Hill provided advertising and graphic design services to iQ for more than 10 years as owner/principal of The Design Ranch. She has also served as senior art director and graphic designer for a number of Portland advertising agencies.

Hill, a native Oregonian, recently relocated from Bend to Vancouver. While living in Central Oregon, she taught graphic design at Central Oregon Community College and helped develop a marketing and graphic design curriculum. She also served as board president for The Education Foundation for Bend La Pine Schools.

Partners in Careers (PIC) recently announced the selection of a new staff member and four management promotions.

Sharon Pesut has joined PIC as operations manager. Pesut was previously executive director for Community Choices and the Clark County Family YMCA. In her new role, Pesut will be responsible for office systems, human resources, accounts payable and payroll, fiscal strategy and community events.

“Sharon brings tremendous strength to our organization as a community-based leader,” said Pam Brokaw, PIC executive director. “We have a great team focusing on innovation and collaborative management.”

In addition, the agency announced the following promotions: Irina Ksenofontov to program manager; David Benedetti to program development manager; Advija Hrustic to lead job developer; and Dave Cole to coordinator of the new YouthFirst Program. All will join the PIC management team, the organization said.

ANNA PENDERGRASS

The Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency (CRESA) executive board recently selected Anna Pendergrass as its new director.

Pendergrass, a 35-year veteran of the emergency services field, has served as the agency’s interim director since the June retirement of Tom Griffith, who held the position for 11 years.

CRESA provides 9-1-1 dispatch, emergency and disaster management and technology services that maintain emergency radio and computer systems. It also oversees the ambulance contract for Emergency Medical Service District 2, and hosts the Region IV Homeland Security Office, which coordinates Homeland Security efforts in Clark, Cowlitz, Skamania and Wahkiakum counties.

As director, Pendergrass will be responsible for all aspects of emergency management and Homeland Security, technical services and administrative duties.

MEGHAN WILLIAMS

Regional law firm Miller Nash has hired Meghan Williams as an associate to work out of its Vancouver office.

Williams concentrates her practice on general business and corporate law with an emphasis on business formation, mergers and acquisitions, governance and other business transactions, the firm said.

“Meghan brings proven experience to the firm and we look forward to having her join the talented team of attorneys in our Vancouver office,” said LeAnne Bremer at Miller Nash.

Williams has represented public and private companies, private equity firms, and private investment funds, as well as small businesses. Before joining Miller Nash, she worked in a Boston-based law firm as a business associate, and as a fellow at Lewis & Clark Law School’s Small Business Legal Clinic.

ALAN FORD, EMILY OLIVA & DAVID REITER

Alan Ford, Emily Oliva and David Reiter have been appointed to YWCA Clark County’s Board of Directors.

Ford is a principal partner with Garrow Equity. His experience in small business ownership, law enforcement, retail management and sales, as well as appreciation for the arts brings YWCA a creative eye for detail, organization and systems, the YWCA said.

Oliva teaches yoga, and has worked as a construction project manager. She also chairs an annual fundraiser which teaches yoga to underprivileged populations. The YWCA said it welcomes Oliva’s project management experience and commitment to the community.

Reiter has been with U.S. Trust since 2000. With a background in political science and financial planning and consultation, the organization said Reiter brings a valuable skill set to YWCA Clark County.

“We’re delighted to add three new members to our board. Each member helps advance our mission in their own, unique way,” said Sherri Bennett, executive director of YWCA Clark County.
