Members of the new Three Creeks Advisory Council were appointed by the Clark County Board of Commissioners. The council will focus on the new Three Creeks special planning area, which includes the unincorporated urban areas of Hazel Dell, Felida, Lake Shore, Salmon Creek and the Clark County fairgrounds.
The council will advise the county on transportation, land-use planning and related issues, and is expected to hold its first meeting in March. Commission Chair Betty Sue Morris also will chair the Three Creeks council.
Morris said the area is expected to see much new development and redevelopment and along Highway 99, and development is already taking place north of 78th Street.
Three Creeks will remain an unincorporated area under the council’s leadership, Morris said.
“This has got nothing to do with annexation and this body is not being asked to deal with governance issues, which would get them to the incorporation issue,” she said.
“I think people here believe it’s atypical, but there are large urbanized unincorporated areas all over the state.”
The council members are Hal Dengerink, chancellor of Washington State University Vancouver; Dan Bodell of the Neighborhood Associations Council of Clark County; William Cline, Fire District 6; Michael Harris, Clark Public Utilities; Denny Kiggins, Clark Regional Wastewater District; and James Spinelli, Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital; Ila Stanek, Hazel Dell-Salmon Creek Business Association; and Ron Wilson, Team 99.
Residents serving as members at large are Jim Carlson, Fairgrounds area; Beth Holmes, Salmon Creek; Ron Lauser, Felida; Vaughn Lein, Felida; and Bud Van Cleve, Hazel Dell. Non-voting ex officio members are John Caton of the city of Vancouver, Commissioner Morris and Matt Swindell of the city of Ridgefield.
