Powers Chiropractic invests in machines to treat chronic lower-back pain
Chiropractor Dale Powers is seeing positive results from equipment he acquired more than a year ago. Powers owns Orchards Physical Therapy, Powers Chiropractic and Powers Personal Training Center and has been a chiropractor for 30 years. In that time, he has done more than a few adjustments for patients with lower-back pain. And until now, the only long-term treatment option was surgery.
Powers purchased two $60,000 Lordex Spine Institute units, which have produced positive results for his patients with severe chronic lower-back pain.
The Lordex system involves two phases of therapy. The first is performed by the Lordex Decompression Unit, which Powers calls “highly technical traction.” Patients receive 20 to 30 half-hour sessions on the machine that works to separate scar tissue and improve circulation and begin healing in the affected area. The second phase is performed on a strengthening machine to rebuild muscle around the spine. The entire therapy takes about four to six weeks to complete.
“It allows them to stay on the job and it gives them a better quality of life,” said Powers.
Powers said he treats about 18 to 20 patients a day on the equipment. He said about 20 patients have cancelled plans for surgery after completing the program. The company claims an 86 percent success rate. Treatment on the Lordex system cost about $5,000, said Powers, compared to $30,000 to $35,000 for surgery.
The system has been around for about five years, and Powers said there are about 300 units throughout the country. Powers expects to add six more units.
