Two bicyclists announced their plans last week for a 500-mile bike tour of every Burgerville restaurant in Washington and Oregon.
Vancouver native Brent Krebsbach planned the trip with Paul LaFrance, a former Portland resident now living in Alaska. Starting Oct. 6 at Burgerville in Centralia, the duo’s goal was to bike at least 100 miles a day, ending in The Dalles Oct. 9.
The day before the trek Krebsbach said they expect to ride nine hours per day, allowing 15 minutes for each Burgerville stop. A nutritionist from the restaurant chain designed a meal plan for each of the riders based on body weight and average speed.
Krebsbach, who now lives in Redmond, Wash., said the ride was a personal endurance challenge.
“We would have done it whether Burgerville knew about it or not,” he said. “We just thought it would be fun.”
If their excursion makes any statement, Krebsbach said it would be about alternatives to fuel-based transportation and “everyday big business.”
“When I think of us biking to all the Burgervilles on our own power I think about sustainability,” he said.
Neither have ever worked for the chain, but Krebsbach claims, “I am affiliated with it since I eat there all the time.”
They received no compensation for their bike ride other than meals.
Burgerville has 39 restaurants in Washington and Oregon. The company recently received national awards for its efforts to maintain and share sustainable business practices.
