Clark County community members join foundation board

Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt, dentist Glen Hollar and marketing strategist Jane Cook have joined the 22-member Clark College Foundation Board of Directors.

Established in 1973, the Clark College Foundation is a nonprofit, tax-exempt public charity. It serves as the fundraising arm of Clark College to support student access to educational programs and services.

In addition to serving as mayor of Vancouver, Leavitt is active on a variety of community and agency boards including C-TRAN Board of Directors, the Columbia River Crossing Project Sponsors Council and the Regional Transportation Council. In addition to his community duties, Leavitt works as senior civil engineer with PBS Engineering + Environmental in Vancouver.

Hollar, a Battle Ground resident, is the former president of the Clark County Dental Society and the owner of Above & Beyond Dentistry & Implants.

Cook, also a Battle Ground resident, is the owner of NewMediacy, a company that encourages businesses to connect and engage using social media. She is also the technology industry event marketing manager at The ExecEvent in Vancouver. Cook has served in a number of roles for the Columbia River Yacht Club, Prairie High School, Clark County Juniors Volleyball Club and the Pink Lemonade Project.

iQ Credit Union has promoted Chris O’Malley to senior vice president of retail delivery.

In his new role, the credit union said O’Malley will be responsible for leading branch operations, information systems and payment systems.

O’Malley has more than 20 years of experience in finance. He joined iQ Credit Union in 2009.

CDM Long-Term Care Services, a 34-year-old Vancouver-based nonprofit agency providing in-home care, adult day services and other supportive services to seniors and adults with disabilities, recently announced that Ameriprise Financial Advisor Rob Katsuno has assumed the role of CDM Board President.

Katsuno won the President of the United States Volunteer Service Award in 2009. He is a graduate of UC Davis, UCLA and Leadership Clark County.

Clarence Belnavis, a partner at Fisher & Phillips LLP (Northwest Regional office), has been featured in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business 2012.

On Line Support, a Vancouver-based technology consulting company, recently hired Aubrey Short as its new office manager.

Short was previously the office manager for Oregon Drive Axle Supply. In her new role, the company said she will provide accounting and administrative services for the firm.

Northwest Health Foundation has named Nichole Maher as its new president and CEO, replacing Thomas Aschenbrener, who retired last week. Maher will join the foundation on August 6.

Maher has served as the executive director of the Native American Youth and Family Center (NAYA) in Portland for 11 years. Under her leadership, the organization went from a staff of five and a budget of $200,000 to more than 100 employees and a $10 million annual budget.

A national recruitment process was led by a search committee composed of Northwest Health Foundation board members in conjunction with a national search firm.

JASON IRVING & EMILY MILLS

Vancouver-based civil engineering firm MacKay & Sposito has announced the addition of Jason Irving, as a construction manager. Additionally, the firm announced that Emily Mills has passed the Landscape Architecture Registration Examination and is now a Licensed Landscape Architect in Washington state.

In his new role, Irving will be responsible for providing project management for heavy civil and park projects for both public and private sector work. He has eight years of engineering experience in roadway design and drainage, hydraulic reports, water distribution, cost estimating and contract administration.

Mills joined MacKay & Sposito in 2007. She specializes in sustainable landscapes, environmental design and graphic communications. She has experience in the development of landscape designs, conceptual master planning and graphic development for a variety of clients and project types.

Clark College recently selected James Martin and Barbara Saur as this year’s Clark College Outstanding Alumni Award recipients.

Saur (Class of ’86) was 57 when she graduated from Clark College with a certificate in business technology. She was determined to re-enter the work force after an 11 year hiatus and so began a decade-long career as a program assistant in Clark’s Women’s Programs mentoring women in the Displaced Homemaker Program.

Saur was active in Clark’s Mature Learning Program and remained engaged upon her retirement in 1996. She has advocated for Al-Anon, volunteered with the HIV/AIDS program at Southwest Washington Health District and on the YWCA’s Women of Achievement committee – earning the honor herself in 2004.

Martin (Class of ’68), chief investment officer for M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust, earned an associate degree in business accounting at Clark and continued on to Eastern Washington University for a bachelor’s in accounting. He also holds a Certified Public Accountant credential and was recently named Small Foundation Manager of the Year by the industry news source Institutional Investor.

Martin credits the availability of a Clark College education as giving him the momentum to achieve higher education, and believes the affordability and accessibility that the community receives from Clark College is a valuable resource.

He currently serves on the PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center Foundation Board of Directors, the Vancouver Rotary Foundation Investment Committee, and has been involved with the Boy’s and Girl’s Clubs and Boy Scouts of America.

GREATER PORTLAND INC NEW BOARD MEMBERS

Regional economic development organization Greater Portland Inc (GPI) has elected Greg Ness, president & CEO of Portland-based StanCorp Financial Group Inc. and Standard Insurance Company, to serve as its new board chairman.

GPI also elected the following new board members: Chris Denzin, vice president and general manager, CenturyLink; Jay Haladay, CEO, Coaxis; Betsy Henning, founder & CEO, AHA!; and Ben McKinley, founder & CEO, Cascade Web Development.

WASHINGTON SOCIETY OF CPAs (SOUTHWEST CHAPTER)

The Southwest Chapter of the Washington Society of CPAs recently selected its Board Officers for 2012-2013.

Officers include: President Matt Lee, Opsahl Dawson Certified Public Accountants; Vice President Julius Agbayani, Houck and Associates P.C.; Treasurer Ken Becker, Portland Nursery; and Secretary David Stubing, Western Oregon University.
