With just four days remaining, Vancouver’s Kiggins Theatre is within $20,000 of funding a transition to digital projection.

Kiggins theaterThe single-screen historic movie theatre hopes to raise $84,000 via the crowd-funding website Kickstarter by August 26 to pay for a digital projector and its associated costs. The theater currently utilizes a film projector, and like many small theaters across the nation, the Kiggins is faced with pressure from the major film studios to “go digital or go dark.”

Kiggins owner Dan Wyatt said that if the business fails to reach its goal, the theater does not receive any of the Kickstarter donations and its future as a venue for movies is uncertain.

As of Wednesday afternoon (August 21), the Kickstarter campaign had raised close to $67,000.
