The Fort Vancouver National Trust received a bit boost in its effort to purchase and preserve the Academy Building, one of the region’s most cherished historic sites.
Vancouver residents Ken and Dean Kirn announced plans to match up to $100,000 in Academy Campaign donations before December 31, 2013.
The Trust is working to raise $10.6 million for the purchase of the historic building and the 6.9 acres of surrounding property. In addition, a supplementary $5 million will be raised over the next five years for renovation and restoration work.
“My wife and I see the significance of the Academy both historically and to our community,” said Ken Kirn. “We are happy to do our part to ensure the future preservation of this important piece of our region’s history and welcome others to join us.”
