Northwest Interpreters Inc. changes name to NWI Global

Smith-Root renderingWashington Governor Jay Inslee joined local and state elected officials on Thursday as Smith-Root Inc., a worldwide supplier of patented fish monitoring and conservation technology, broke ground on a new 30,000-square-foot facility in Salmon Creek.

Jeff Smith, CEO of the Vancouver-based company, said the new facility will be 10,000 square feet larger than their current location. It will also incorporate the latest in green building techniques. Vancouver-based Schlecht Construction is the general contractor.

“We have simply outgrown the headquarters we’re in now,” Smith said. “We have people literally stacked up in the hallways. We have one fellow that actually has his office in a closet.”

Vic Marcus, vice president of business development for the company, said the new name better aligns with the firm’s growth.

“A growing part of our business is with nationwide clients for both interpreting services and also translation services,” said Marcus. “We felt limited by our name, and want our name to reflect a sense of accessibility to our nationwide clientele.”

NWI Global is located at 203 SE Park Plaza Drive, Suite 190, in Vancouver. The company was founded in 1992.
