Sketchbook sells for $112,500 at state auction

A sketchbook being held by the Washington State Department of Revenue sold for $112,500 during the state’s annual unclaimed property auction this month. The un-authenticated sketchbook is believed to be previously used by famed artist Pablo Picasso.

Other items up for bid at the auction included coins, jewelry, sports cards and more. These items were turned over to the Washington State Department of Revenue after financial institutions lost touch with owners and rental fees went unpaid for a period of time. State law requires the department to auction off the contents if the owners haven’t been found within five years of receipt.
