The city of Vancouver, working with the Neighborhood Traffic Safety Alliance (NTSA), will fund four local neighborhood projects designed to address traffic safety concerns.
The four projects include:
Columbia Street – West Fourth Plain Boulevard to West 33rd Street: Ladder-style pedestrian crosswalks at the intersections of 27th and 29th streets; addition of street trees along corridor. Estimated cost: $39,000. Southeast Talton Avenue – Southeast 19th Street to Southeast Angus Street: Series of speed cushions along corridor. Estimated cost: $63,000.
General Anderson Avenue – Fourth Plain Boulevard to Plomondon Street: Series of speed cushions along corridor. Estimated cost: $24,000.
East Fifth Street – East Reserve Street to Grand Boulevard: Ladder-style pedestrian crosswalks, series of speed cushions along corridor. Estimated cost: $62,000. Funding for these projects comes from the city’s Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program and Real Estate Excise Tax (REET) revenues.
Both the city and NTSA encourage neighborhoods to champion projects and become actively involved in the process of selecting traffic calming projects for this program. More details can be found at www.cityofvancouver.us/TrafficCalmingProgram.
