The city of Vancouver is asking residents to help increase pedestrian safety in the community through the Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program and a Community Development Block Grant program for ADA curb ramps.
This year, the program will allocate approximately $170,000 for traffic calming projects, and a $100,000 grant will help install new curb ramps making them compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
Both the city and Neighborhood Traffic Safety Alliance (NTSA) are encouraging neighborhoods to propose and champion projects. To be considered for funding, project proponents must work closely with the NTSA and city staff as they proceed through the program. The first step in proposing a traffic calming project is to attend a NTSA meeting and make a brief presentation providing information regarding the traffic problem and proposed solution.
Applications are now being accepted from Vancouver residents who wish to apply for traffic calming or ADA ramp project funding.
