Essential Building Technologies is a building automation and controls contractor that supplies products to the commercial construction and building remodel industries. Scott Conley, company president, said that 2012 was a “springboard year,” where new streams of revenue and new products enabled the company to grow revenue 138 percent over 2011 and add three new employees and several new business allies. Conley said they also hired a local business coach to help manage company structure and set new goals for growth and quality.
Examples of new products include one that has enabled the company to expand beyond HVAC automation into card access systems, and Conley said the company is also doing more lighting control than in the past. However, he said 90 percent of their business is temperature control, energy management and indoor air quality. Local projects include the Vancouver Police Department, several school districts and the Water Resource Education Center.
One factor driving company growth, said Conley, are programs funded through Oregon and Washington energy providers (such as Clark Public Utilities) that reimburse companies up to 50 percent of project cost for energy efficiency projects.
Most of the products sold by Conley’s firm are manufactured by Reliable Controls, and Essential Building Technologies is the largest Reliable Controls dealer in the western United States.
