LSW Architects celebrates 50 years with An Evening of the Arts
Led by the company’s mission to build stronger communities through leadership, relationship and creativity, LSW Architects took a unique approach to celebrating their 50th anniversary. With a long client list of area schools, LSW brought its celebration back to the schools with An Evening of the Arts. Several hundred guests, including LSW employees and their families and students and their families, attended the event on Nov. 3 at Skyview High School.
"It was a way to recognize our 50 years in the community … and that what art brings to our community is important to us," said LSW Principal Ralph Willson. "Architecture is a blend of art and science, it’s important to remember that."
The program, entirely student run from catering to entertainment, included an art display from participants from 27 local schools grade six through 12, plus Clark College. The participants were judged and two winners from each grade level were awarded $500 plus $500 to the winners’ schools’ art programs. A music program featured musicians from several of the same participating schools.
"We were just absolutely thrilled with the quality that the kids brought to the event," said Willson. "It just goes to show that Southwest Washington has a really bright future in front of it with these kinds of kids and the support from the school districts."
LSW was established in 1955 and has offices in Vancouver, Portland and Pasco, Wash. Wilson said most architecture firms last less than 10 years, but LSW is looking ahead for another 50.
"We are here to stay and we are looking forward to a long future of what we do in this region," he said.
Recent and upcoming milestone projects for LSW include the Clark Center at WSU Vancouver, the Clark County Center for Community Health, and the up-to-20 K-12 school projects it is involved in each year.
