Robin Twyman, the Consul in the Seattle office of the British Consulate and accompanying the Consul General at the breakfast this morning, offered that currently there are some 80 British companies doing business in the state of Washington employing directly 13,000 people. The Consul General, when asked about foreign direct investment by British companies, specifically in the northwest region related that currently UK companies represent foreign direct investment in the United States which is 115% greater than that by China. While the Consul General doesn’t see any decline in the interest in US investments by British companies she encourage US companies to investigate investing in England given their central government’s interest in aiding businesses grow because they understand the direct correlation to business growth and the growth of jobs which in turn helps to stabilize the overall economy.
According to Consul General Guha, their UK Trade & Investment organization is designed to aid British Companies in locating in the US (or the other 179 countries in which they are active) or assist US companies interested in locating facilities in the UK.
