SBDC, Senator Cantwell promote “Small Business Saturday”

Washington state Senator Maria Cantwell, the Washington Small Business Development Center Network (SBDC) and the U.S. Small Business Administration are encouraging everyone to shop local this Saturday and throughout the holiday season as a way to support Main Street jobs and the local economy.

“Small businesses are the engines of economic growth in Washington state and across America,” said Cantwell, a member of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee.“Supporting local small businesses on Main Street helps job creation, and it helps preserve our communities. That’s why I’m supporting Small Business Saturday, an initiative that promotes small, independent businesses. Small businesses are critical to our state’s economic growth. Buying locally keeps investment in our communities and helps our best job creators continue their success.”

Cantwell was an original co-sponsor of the Small Business Saturday Resolution, which passed the Senate earlier this month, designating November 26 as “Small Business Saturday.”

According to the SBDC, more than 50 percent of Americans work for or own a small business and in the past decade, more than two-thirds of all new jobs have been created by small business owners.

The SBDC is a cooperative effort of Washington State University, other educational institutions, economic development organizations and the U.S. Small Business Administration.
