Pete DuBois County appoints sustainability coordinator
Pete DuBois was promoted to stainability coordinator of Clark County Public Works in June. He has been a waste reduction specialist in the county’s solid waste program since 1994.
DuBois’ job will include work with solar electricity and water heating systems, urban gardens, employee commute reduction, and recycling in county parks. Current county eco-initiatives include a $2.4 million investment in solar electricity and water heating systems, as well as creation of urban gardens, incentives for employee commute reduction and more recycling in county parks.
Previously, DuBois was involved with county efforts in sustainability such as the energy efficiency certification of the Clark Public Service Center in Vancouver and the introduction of composting in schools
He holds a master’s degree in economics from Portland State University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Massachusetts-based Williams College.
Debbie Nesbitt, Frances Fisher WEO honors women entrepreneurs
The Women Entrepreneurs Organization of Vancouver honored two women for their accomplishments in 2007. Debbie Nesbitt was named woman entrepreneur of the year. She is owner of Vancouver-based Positive Dynamics, where she works as a registered nurse, certified hypnotherapist and neuro-linguistic practitioner. Frances Fisher is WEO’s rookie of the year. She is a health insurance agent in a Vancouver office of The Ladd Group, which is based in Portland.
David Lam Riverview chooses vice president, controller
David Lam has been appointed vice president and controller of Vancouver-based Riverview Community Bank. Lam was an auditor at Portland-based Symonds, Evans and Co. and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Oregon State University. Riverview Community Bank is a subsidiary of Vancouver-based Riverview Bancorp.
Mark Matthias Restaurateur receives first citizen honor
Mark Matthias was honored as Clark County’s First Citizen of 2008 in June. He is owner of Vancouver-based Beaches Restaurant and Bar and received the award from the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington.
After opening Beaches in 1995, Matthias established the nonprofit Beaches Charity Fund, generating several hundreds of thousands of dollars for organizations such as Share House, YWCA Clark County and the Vancouver School District Foundation.
The First Citizen award was established in 1939.
Wade Stewart EOCF gains training manager
Wade Stewart has joined the staff of Vancouver-based Educational Opportunities for Children and Families as training manager. Stewart’s background includes six years in finance. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration, management and communications from Concordia University and is pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree through the University of Phoenix.
Andrew Young Engineer to lead local military engineers group
Andrew Young, public sector project manager at the Vancouver office of MacKay and Sposito Inc., was appointed president of the Portland Society of American Military Engineers. Young was previously vice president of the association. He has worked in engineering for more than 13 years, including eight years as a military combat engineer. Young also is active with the American Red Cross Southwest Washington Chapter.
Chris Bryant Adviser becomes registered consultant
Chris Bryant, a financial adviser and owner of Longview-based Bryant Wealth Management Inc., has earned designation as a registered financial consultant with the International Association of Registered Financial Consultants. Bryant has worked in financial services for nine years and received the designation for his high professional and ethical standards and ongoing professional education, according to the association.
Diana Kainu Prudential Northwest gains assistant
Diana Kainu joined the Vancouver staff of Portland-based Prudential Northwest Properties. She will serve as assistant to Jill Lutz, sales associate, working from Prudential’s Vancouver office at Columbia Tech Center.
Farmers Insurance Insurance agents become top sellers
Five Vancouver agents of Farmers Insurance have joined the company’s group of top sales producers. Debbie Clinton, Bruce Herring, Sacha Mattson, Jared Morrison and Olga Zheleznov were recognized for sales achievements in 2007. Farmers Insurance operates under Los Angeles-based Farmers Group Inc., an international subsidiary of Zurich Financial Services Group.
