Katlin Smith receives 2011 Vocational Service Award from Rotary Club of Vancouver

Katlin Smith, owner of UrbanWords Group, a Vancouver-based public relations firm, recently received the Vocational Service Award from the Rotary Club of Vancouver. The award recognizes an individual in our community who exemplifies outstanding commitment to their business or profession, over a significant number of years, leaving a lasting positive influence on their vocational area and the community in general, and who reflects the values of Rotary.

Smith, a past president of the Portland Metro Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, has coordinated public involvement for diverse projects including transportation, parks and community development. Her civic engagement work includes public outreach and workshops, publication development, media coordination and project research. She is also the founder of the local Dining for Women Chapter, which raises funds monthly for international organizations serving women and girls living in dire poverty in developing countries.

Smith is a member of Fort Vancouver National Trust Marketing/PR Committee, Vancouver’s Downtown Association and the Rotary Club of Vancouver.

AMY PRICE

Amy Price was recently promoted to branch manager at Riverview Community Bank’s Battle Ground office.

Price has worked for Riverview for nine years, serving as assistant manager in Stevenson and Battle Ground. She is a charter member of the Battle Ground Rotary Club and is an active member of the Battle Ground Chamber of Commerce.

Price, a Vancouver native, holds an Associate in Arts degree from Clark College and is a Prairie High School graduate.

KEVIN WINGATE-PEARSE

Kevin Wingate-Pearse, of Coldwell Banker, has been named Affordable Community Environments’ (ACE) new board chair following the resignation of Bryan Cole from ACE’s Board of Directors in September. 

“I look forward to strong continued involvement as board chair, and hope that I can be as effective as the outgoing chair Bryan Cole,” said Mr. Wingate-Pearse. “I feel honored to work with the people at ACE, our community partners and the ACE Board.” 

Upon Mr. Cole’s resignation, ACE also selected Eric Christensen, executive director of The Quarry Senior Living, as vice chair. Doug McLain of Currie and McLain remained as treasurer, and Julie Arenz of IQ Credit Union was appointed as secretary.

 ACE is a nonprofit organization that develops sustainable and affordable communities in Southwest Washington.

Shane Weisman, a financial advisor with Ameriprise, was recently elected to the Evergreen School District Foundation (ESDF) Board of Directors.

Weisman has provided financial planning & wealth management to individuals and corporations in the local community for the last 8 years.

The Evergreen School District Foundation was formed in 1996 to support the delivery of a high quality educational experience for all students within the Evergreen School District. Since that time, the ESDF has provided $1.5 million in support through technology upgrades, teacher grants, scholarships, school supplies and other programs.

PBS Engineering + Environmental in Vancouver recently hired Arlan Rippe as a chief geotechnical engineer.

During his 40 years of consulting experience, Rippe has acquired a broad background in civil engineering and has specialized experience in geotechnical engineering for both public and private clients, according to PBS.

Rippe has provided geotechnical engineering consultation and advice throughout Oregon, Washington and Idaho.
