Burkman most recently served as the southwest region planning manager for Washington State Department of Transportation. Prior to that, he worked for Hewlett Packard for nearly 28 years – including 21 years in Vancouver. He has a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Montana State University and is a Certified Professional Coach with training from Antioch University in Seattle.
He currently serves on the Southwest Washington Regional Transportation Council, Joint Policy Advisory Committee on Transportation and the Bi-State Transportation Committee.
MONICA STONIER
Rep. Monica Stonier (D-Vancouver) has been named a charter member of Washington’s Education Accountability Oversight Committee.
The bipartisan panel will monitor implementation of a new law (SB 5329) approved during the 2013 legislative session that is designed to help persistently failing public schools improve their performance through support, guidance and, if necessary, direct intervention by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI).
The new law directs OSPI to develop criteria to determine which schools fall into the lowest-performing category and to create definite guidelines to help them improve.
The Education Accountability Oversight Committee will hold its organizational meeting this fall.

U.S. Bank recently named Clark College student Nichole Shields as one of 40 college students chosen to receive a $1,000 U.S. Bank Scholarship.
Shields, a junior at Clark College pursuing a degree in nursing, was selected from more than 200,000 students throughout the country who applied for the scholarship program.
“We are proud to continue the U.S. Bank Scholarship Program for the 17th consecutive year,” said Erica Opstad, vice president, office of corporate citizenship and financial education at U.S. Bank. “With the cost of college tuition increasing, and number of financial aid options decreasing, it’s important that both prospective and current college students are able to help pay for higher education through this program.”
Shields resides in Battle Ground.
ALBERT ANGELO III
Albert Angelo III, partner of the Al Angelo Company, was recently elected to the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington Board as a member of the Board of Directors.
Angelo also serves on the Peace Health Southwest Foundation Board and The Fort Vancouver National Trust Advisory Board, in addition to helping with his family’s property management business.
