CHARLA SKAGGS

Charla Skaggs, a senior-level project manager, facilitator and strategic advisor for clients in ports, transportation, and other private and public organizations, has joined the Vancouver-based firm of Maul Foster & Alongi (MFA) as a senior communications and public outreach specialist.

Skaggs will draw on her expertise in developing strategies that wed political, community and business considerations with long-term communications goals for MFA clients.

Prior to joining MFA, Skaggs held positions at the Ports of Seattle and Tacoma and the Washington Public Ports Association (WPPA). She served for many years as the manager of strategic communications and corporate media at the Port of Seattle, and most recently worked as a consultant supporting several of the major transportation infrastructure, transit and port-related developments throughout the region.

“MFA has a long history of serving the port industry in Oregon and Washington,” said Jim Darling, MFA Vice President. “Through her work at the Ports of Tacoma and Seattle as well as the Washington Public Ports Association, Charla has a deep understanding of the issues affecting our northwest ports. Her work in the consulting field broadened that understanding to other private and public projects and initiatives.”

Skaggs will support all of MFA’s office locations, including the firm’s headquarters in Vancouver.

Maureen WinninghamMAUREEN WINNINGHAM

Maureen Winningham has joined Legacy Health Systems as a senior learning & development consultant.

Winningham has spent the majority of her career in learning leadership positions for companies including Intel, Gentle Dental, Bank of America and Limited Brands. She is an internationally-known speaker and member of several professional associations. She is one of only 1,300 people globally to earn the CPLP (Certified Professional in Learning & Performance) from the Association for Talent Development. She is also a certified psychometric analyst, a Master Crucial Conversations Trainer and a coach for the neuroscience of brain-based coaching.

Winningham also serves on the Southwest Washington American Red Cross Board of Directors.

David BrownDAVID BROWN

Earlier this month, the Northwest Association for Blind Athletes announced that David Brown has been appointed to its Board of Directors.

Brown comes to NWABA’s board recently retired from Nike Inc. He worked for Nike for more than 30 years in a number of leadership positions, most recently as VP of Global Merchandising for Brand Jordan. Brown has also been an active volunteer in the Portland community for several years.

“As I have been involved in athletics my entire life, I found an organization that not only allowed me to continue with my passion of working with athletes but give back to these athletes and the community to help create life changing experiences,” said Brown.

Brown will join other community leaders throughout the region in helping Northwest Association for Blind Athletes achieving its mission of providing life-changing opportunities through sports and physical activity to individuals who are blind and visually impaired.

Peter De Graff, trust investment advisor with Asset Management Group of U.S. Bank in Vancouver, recently earned the Certified Financial Planner certification.

Individuals who pursue this certification follow a rigorous curriculum established by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. and are among a select group of professionals in the financial services industry.

De Graff works in partnership with his clients to identify their financial needs and establish goals, develop personalized financial plans and provide ongoing consultation.

He has been a member of Asset Management Group for seven years. He works at the U.S. Bank office located at 1613 Broadway in Vancouver.

Dena StrongDENA STRONG

Earlier this month, Innovative Services NW announced the hiring of Dena Strong as the organization’s new vice president of client services.

Strong spent nine years working for a custom manufacturing company headquartered in Vancouver, where she held numerous positions and eventually worked her way through the ranks to become president and CEO. She also worked as a consultant for numerous organizations for the past three years.

Strong has a bachelor’s degree from Washington State University in business administration.

JARED FISCHER & SEAN MAHONEY

WRK Engineers, a Vancouver-based full-service structural engineering company focused on structural engineering and seismic design, recently announced the promotion of Jared Fischer to associate principal and the hiring of Sean Mahoney.

Jared FischerDuring his ten year professional career, Fischer has managed and designed a wide variety of structural engineering project types. His experience includes structural design of deep foundations, multi-family housing, mass timber buildings, design-build, and seismic evaluation and retrofit. Recent projects include Isabella Court Senior Housing, Lincoln Place Apartments, and Oak Harbor and Lebanon Water Treatment Plants.

In his new role, Fischer (who joined WRK in 2014) will continue to develop the firm’s construction engineering & contractor support services market sector while mentoring junior engineering staff.

Fischer earned his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Portland State University and is a licensed Professional Civil Engineer in the states of Oregon and Washington.

Sean MahoneyMahoney comes to WRK from Portland State University where he received his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering. His previous experience includes solar panel installation as well as acting as the operations manager at Inner Sound.

In his new role, Mahoney will be working on residential building design with a focus on settlement remediation using driven piles.

BRENDA WEST & DOUG OWENS

Vancouver-based Prestige Care recently announced the addition of two new executives to its corporate leadership team. Brenda West has been appointed as the organization’s new chief clinical officer (CCO) and Doug Owens joins as chief information officer (CIO).

Brenda WestWest joins Prestige as its CCO after most recently serving in the same role at Summit Pacific Medical Center in Elma, Wash. She brings more than 25 years of professional medical experience in executing organizational efficiency and strategic management tactics that enhance patient and staff satisfaction.

Doug OwensOwens joins Prestige with more than two decades of information technology experience in the senior living and healthcare sectors. He most recently served as vice president of information technology for strategic business units at Golden Living in Plano, Texas, one of the nation’s largest nursing and post-acute healthcare providers. He brings a successful track record of leading businesses through technical systems integrations, as well as, helping senior care organizations to utilize technology to better optimize business processes and expand through new technical initiatives.
