Clark County, city of Washougal to purchase land for habitat area

Clark County will provide almost $300,000 to assist the city of Washougal in purchasing land along the Washougal River for a park and habitat area.

Earlier this month, the Board of County Commissioners authorized using Conservation Futures funding for 50 percent of the $599,000 price, which was set by an appraisal.

Washougal will use city park impact fees for the remainder of the purchase. The city will own and manage the property, with the purchase expected to close in June 2015.

The site, the former headquarters for George Schmid and Sons Inc., includes five acres adjacent to 32nd Avenue that will be used as a park. A 12-acre habitat area also is included along the Washougal River.
