“We’re seeing a continuing increase in the number of people doing business in the permit center,” said department director Marty Snell in a press release. “Our request is a response to market demand for quicker turnaround time from permits to inspections.”
Snell said the proposal would add hours at the permit center on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but would not restore staffing to pre-recession levels.
“Overall, the economy is improving slowly,” he said. “We’re being very measured in restoring services.”
Commissioners will consider staff recommendations on the budget during a public hearing at 6 p.m. on Tuesday Dec. 3. The hearing will take place at the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St., 6th floor hearing room, in Vancouver.
