The single-screen historic movie theatre hopes to raise $84,000 via the crowd-funding website Kickstarter by August 26 to pay for a digital projector and its associated costs. The theater currently utilizes a film projector, and like many small theaters across the nation, the Kiggins is faced with pressure from the major film studios to “go digital or go dark.”
Kiggins owner Dan Wyatt said that if the business fails to reach its $85,000 goal, the future of the theater as a venue for movies is uncertain.
As of Friday (August 8), the Kickstarter campaign had raised close to $20,000.
