The Share Backpack Program was the recipient of 264 pounds of food and $136 in cash donations, following Monday’s Vancouver City Council community picnic and food drive. The council canceled its regularly scheduled Consent Agenda Meeting on August 26 in order to host the end-of-summer event at LeRoy Haagen Memorial Community Park.
More than 120 residents attended the two-hour picnic. 84 residents donated cash or food to support Share, and received a voucher for a free meal at the Burgerville Nomad food truck. Burgerville partnered with the council to support Share.
The council also handed out 50 back-to-school kits to children at the park, thanks in part to a donation from Walmart.
