Kris Stadelman, Legislative Committee Chair of the Vancouver-based Washington Workforce Association, has been named president of the United States Conference of Mayors Workforce Development Council.
The announcement follows shortly after Stadelman, CEO of the Workforce Development Council of Seattle-King County, was named the Workforce System Executive Director of the Year by the National Workforce Association.
Stadelman has worked to make the Washington Workforce Association a national leader in policy innovation, economic development, job training and other workforce efforts in specific sectors. She also has been involved in the creation of the highly regarded “one-stop” system, called WorkSource in Washington State. Such systems integrate many government employment-related programs and services in one place to serve both job seekers and businesses, under the direction of a board of directors led by the private sector.
For the council, Stadelman plans to focus on issues critical to communities throughout the state, including dropout prevention, self-sufficiency through skills and employment and development of a knowledge-driven strategy for economic growth.
The U.S. Conference of Mayors Workforce Development Council was established in 1977 to work on behalf of mayors across the nation to advise the U.S. Department of Labor and U.S. Congress on key issues in workforce development.
