County's retail trade drops 7.8 percent
Clark County's taxable retail sales dropped 6.2 percent to
$4.6 billion in 2008, according to new data from the state Department of Revenue.
Retail trade – a subset of all taxable retail sales that excludes construction, services and other nonretail businesses – was down 7.8 percent to $2 billion compared to 2007. The DOR considers retail trade a better measure of consumer purchases than taxable retail sales.
Statewide, taxable retail sales decreased 4.3 percent to $113.2 billion in 2008, while retail trade was down 6.1 percent to
$48.3 billion compared to 2007.
Wal-Mart expands business with women, minorities
In 2008, Wal-Mart spent $8.1 billion with minority and women-owned suppliers, a 25 percent increase, according to the company. The numbers were verified by CVM Solutions, a third-party enterprise supplier management company.
