4. Why should my business use Washington Healthplanfinder?
Washington Healthplanfinder Business, which is available in select Southwest Washington counties (Clark & Cowlitz), makes it easier to compare and shop for plans all in one place. Business owners will be able to see side-by-side comparisons of state-certified health plans, including the costs, premiums, what is covered and quality ratings. Washington Healthplanfinder also gives employers the freedom to determine their own level of contribution toward their employees’ coverage.
5. Why are you only offering coverage options in select southwest Washington counties?
The insurance carriers that have filed to participate will not provide Washington Healthplanfinder with adequate coverage options statewide by Oct. 1, 2013. More counties are expected to be covered in 2014.
6. Do I have to get insurance for my employees? What happens if I do not cover my employees?
If you have fewer than 50 full-time employees, you are not required to provide them with health insurance coverage. However, good benefits can help recruit and retain good employees. And the tax credits offered through Washington Healthplanfinder Business can help put affordable health coverage within reach.
7. Can I use Washington Healthplanfinder Business if my company has more than 50 employees?
Beginning in 2016, companies of up to 100 will be defined as “small employers.” This means businesses with up to 100 employees can buy health plans for their employees through Washington Healthplanfinder Business beginning in 2016. In 2017, the exchange has the option to offer plans to employers with more than 100 employees.
8. Who is eligible for the small business tax credit?
To be eligible in 2013, small employers must have 25 employees or less and contribute at least 50 percent of the total premium cost for employee health coverage. For more specifics, go to wahbexchange.org.
9. Will I still be able to use my broker to get health insurance through Washington Healthplanfinder Business?
Yes. If your current broker has been certified by the Washington Health Benefit Exchange, he or she will be able to assist you when you apply for coverage through Washington Healthplanfinder Business. Brokers must also be appointed by respective health insurance carriers companies to sell specific health plans, just as they are today.
10. What if I am self-employed?
Because a small business is defined as up to 50 employees, self-employed individuals can purchase health insurance through Washington Healthplanfinder Business or through the individual market on Washington Healthplanfinder.
