Name: Heidi M. Johnson Bixby, CFP
Current employer or place of business: Johnson Bixby & Associates, LLC
Organization(s) I volunteer with: Columbia Springs, board chair; H-RoC PAC, board member and Treasurer; Global Sojourns Giving Circle, co-founding board member and treasurer; Community Home Health & Hospice, advisory council member.
How I got involved: My mom passed on the importance of volunteering – I’d go with her and help out from an early age. As an adult, I’ve continued that legacy and hope to pass it on by inspiring others to volunteer.
Why I give back: I believe if we can raise the tide for one, we can raise it for all. There are so many worthy causes that are making a difference and for someone that has benefited from building my career and business in this community, I consider it a privilege to pay it forward.
Proudest moment as a volunteer: Helping to establish Global Sojourns Giving Circle (www.gsgivingcircle.org). With my love for Africa and the chance to work with a dear friend, we combined our passions to help raise funds that support social entrepreneurs in sub-Saharan Africa focused on educating and empowering girls.
What local challenge or issue are you most passionate about? Connecting people to resources and information. There are so many wonderful nonprofits and businesses offering services and experiences in our community that give everyone the opportunity to pursue their goals and dreams. I’ve had numerous mentors and opportunities in my life and I want the same for others.
Just for fun: What are your hidden talents? I’m a photographer and set up a website for selling my photos with proceeds going back to charity. The website is www.philanthropyphoto.com.
“Paying it Forward: Volunteer Businessperson of the Week” is sponsored by Pacific Continental Bank.
