Recovery or not, what the region is still in need of – let alone what we want – is jobs. Official unemployment still exceeds regional and state levels. If we consider those who quit looking for work and the underemployed, jobs are by far the region’s biggest need.
Locally, 2013 marked an end to five years of economic draught and a return to growth in nearly all sectors. Even new home starts are building with the first two subdivisions proposed in Clark County in a few years. Let’s be thankful for the long awaited return to a sustainable growth curve. But for Christmas, really, all we need are Jobs!

We don’t need a lot for Christmas
There’s just one thing we need
We don’t care about those presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
We just want to grow our town
We’re so done with being down
Idle hands our spirit’s robbed
All we want for Christmas is Jobs
(Refrain) We don’t need a lot for Christmas
There’s just one thing that we need
We don’t care about those presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
We don’t want a stop to growing
In Clark, Skamania and Cowlitz if we may
Santa Claus can’t make us happy
Bringing toys on Christmas day
We just want to grow a bit
None of us can afford to sit
No one wants to weep and sob
All we want for Christmas is Jobs
We won’t ask for much this Christmas
(Just a few actually wish for snow)
We’re content to keep on working
Hoping that you’ll make it so
No need to make a list and send it
Ol’ St Nick, give us the nod
And bring new business to our towns
We’ll work hard with mind and bod’
They are the one thing that we know
Will keep us all amid the glow
Must we again resort to sobs?
Santa, all we need this Christmas are jobs
Oh, we don’t want a lot for Christmas
This is all we’re asking for
We just want to see those new jobs
Landing in at our county’s doors
We just want them for our own
More than you will ever know
Make our wish come true
Jobs we need this Christmas from you
